First day in the water with All Star Philippines, aboard the Stella Maris. Apo Reef is in the coral triangle, renowned worldwide for the amount of life. We were stunned on day one - so much to look at!
Be sure to check out the goby fish sitting on the front porch of his hole in the sandy patch. There are two bright yellow shrimp with little claws, the Mr. and Mrs., clearly. I think he’s dragging furniture in the door, then gets spooked by the lights. So she bulls past him to keep working, and he drags her back by her tail - twice - to save her from danger. Then stands guard as fierce protector beast at the entrance. That was the coolest thing.
Also look for the clown triggerfish, a favorite of both mine and Neil’s - the chubby fish with crazy markings including huge white circles on its black belly.

Personal vacation video of Holly & Neil, aboard the Stella Maris. Any mistakes in fish ID are mine, please forgive. Shot with a GoPro Hero Black 7, and a pair of Bigblue lights, totaling 18,000 lumens. Stills are frame grabs, some are sharper than others due to relying on auto-focus with this setup. As a slightly-skilled amateur who is used to buying professional images in my day job, I've always respected how much skill goes into this, and that appreciation is only deeper (pardon the pun) with underwater work. It's hard!
